Fancy dinner Friday night. My place. Wear your most cocktail-adjacent attire. No plus ones.

Oooooh! Is this like when your power goes out so you gotta eat all the ice cream for dinner before it melts? Or are we just feeling the celebratory spirit??

I like to party. Do we need an excuse?

Not at all!! Sometimes I enjoy matching my attire to the theme of the evening, if there is one, but you can't beat a free-for-all.

Sure, there can be a theme. Any suggestions?

Hmmmmm, just off the top of my head (NO pressure to choose!!!): Roaring Twenties with a speakeasy, tiki torches and tropical prints, under the sea or shipwrecked to explain why the chairs look like they got a little wet recently, spooky skeletons because it's almost Halloween.

I feel like 20s Speakeasy is going to go best with the extravagant luxury theme we're doing for dinner. Can anyone get us fresh lemon juice?

That and our bootlegging empire really lends itself to an authentic 1920s experience. Full immersion. I'll make the drink menu, I have some ideas.

I have a few nice bottles of red wine I'm going to bust out, but I'd love some prohibition era cocktails if you can swing it.

Our operation is only marginally more sophisticated than the prohibition era, I can definitely swing it. Especially if we get that lemon juice.

I have some terrible crabapple cider that might be acceptable if mixed with something. If you want it.

I made it in a fit of overconfidence. It's fresh, at least.

That's how the best discoveries are made. I'll take fresh, we can curb the sourness with something infinitely more sweet. Though an alcohol induced stomachache by bathtub cider is also pretty period accurate.

I would hesitate to call this a 'best discovery.' But yes, no sugar was involved, hence the [...] badness of it.

That's actually a great name for a new cider. It'll go pretty well with "mystery punch" which got away from me before we could name it something better, and now it's stuck.

And when they ask why, you can say: "no reason," and ominously drift away.
