Prescott did always look tired. Carter doesn't do anything so obvious as look at where she'd seen Reggie before, staring at a fire, clearly in some early stage of emotional constipation. That's just the image that comes to her mind, immediately and regrettably. She places hot chocolates down by Bunny and Duke to lighten her load.

"I don't want them to think we're bad at decorating. But I do want a tree of our own that's better decorated."
