court's 36th birthday!!!

the gist

it's court's birthday!! arlo arranged a surprise party in the kitchen of prescott's fire house and invited whoever he thinks her friends are.

celebrate, eat, drink, and if you can't get home safely at the end of the night he'll roll you into a bed in the bunkhouse.

while only some characters were officially invited, feel free to write anyone in! just say they were at prescott on business idc.

the details

zelda deemed the theme to be unhinged cow print and raided the danforth walmart for decorations, including cow print diningware and inflatable horses.
arlo made egg-free veggie burgers and chocolae mousse.
everyone else brought whatever they brought; i'm not listing them, you do it.

Nat smiles at that, looks over to what used to be the circle of drunken Jenga players where Arlo and Court still sit. "Bar brawls aside, he seems like he has a big heart," she agrees. "It's good that the three of you have eachother in all of this mess. Four," she corrects herself, doesn't know Bunny well, but knows enough that he and Duke are important to one another.

"You given any more thought to my muppet request?"

"Arlo raised me, if you didn't know. An' we're def super lucky to all have each other," Duke replies, his tone suggests that he really knows that, and his tipsiness only makes him more sincere. He's lucky, and happy to be.

The soft sincerity is wiped off his face, however, as he processes Nat's question. "Oh, fuck yes, dude. Um." Setting down his mousse, he looks around for a moment, confused, before getting his whits about him and pulling a sharpie out of his hoodie pocket. "Wanna test drive it?"

Oh. Nat blinks. This was happening. The equivalent of a 1 am ill-advised, drunk tattoo, but with sharpie.

"In the immortal words of Rihanna: shut up and drive," Nat shrugs out of her flannel, the tank top underneath giving more than enough canvas for the artist. "What's the best placement? Shoulder? Forearm?"

With a grin, Duke pulls the cap off of the sharpie with his mouth and keeps it there as he examines her arm, gently twisting and turning it thoughtfully. He is not actually thinking, but it's good to look like he is.

"Forearm to start so you can see it good and decide if it's what you want," he says around the pen cap, gently going to put Nat's arm on the table. "We're gonna do Beaker but then I'm gonna see you again when this has washed off and I'm going to let you test drive another one 'cause I got an idea but I don't wanna force nothin' so we're doing exactly what you want first." This is said still around the pen cap. He starts to draw.

"Test drive another," Nat is intrigued as she watches the black lines start to appear on her arm. "What's your idea exactly, is my arm about to become The Muppet Show?"

"Bro no but it's a secret," Duke replies rather seriously, his work a little less precise because of the talking and also the alcohol. But, since it's just sharpie, he's not worried about it in the least.

"Like it's an alternative if you want. Or you can have both. You can see when you try out the other once, but I promise it's sick."

"I believe it," she did, both his enthusiasm and his confidence. She watches the black lines turn into something that's starting to resemble Beaker and is honestly delighted by the weird thing.

"When did you learn how to tattoo?"

Duke works happily, humming around the pen cap in his mouth in satisfaction. He's so good at making friends! He twists his head around, as opposed to moving her arm, to get a slightly better angle.

"In juvie, got my first tat there an' it seemed kinda fun to learn so I did. You got any fun hobbies?"

"I tinker, I like to experiment," she sighs a little wistfully, the parameters in which she could do exactly that are greatly reduced by resources and equipment. "I hear you and I have something in common where chemicals and explosions are concerned."

She smiles, though it slips a little as she thinks back to life before. "Always been a bit of a yes person. Painting class? Sure why not. Kickboxing in the park to Mr.Worldwide, Pitbull? Let's do it."
