the gist

it's court's birthday!! arlo arranged a surprise party in the kitchen of prescott's fire house and invited whoever he thinks her friends are.

celebrate, eat, drink, and if you can't get home safely at the end of the night he'll roll you into a bed in the bunkhouse.

while only some characters were officially invited, feel free to write anyone in! just say they were at prescott on business idc.

the details

zelda deemed the theme to be ~~unhinged~~ cow print and raided the danforth walmart for decorations, including cow print diningware and inflatable horses.
arlo made egg-free veggie burgers and chocolae mousse.
everyone else brought whatever they brought; i'm not listing them, you do it.

"You'll pass out in the bucket 'n drown," he replies, leaning back against the table so he can cross his arms all nonchalantly. "Then Makepeace'll be too busy crying to captain the team and we'll get our asses whooped tomorrow. Don't be the reason we lost, that's like... the worst way to honour your memory."

"Not like Lundegaard isn't already playin' through tears," Reggie huffs. She's already reaching for the dishes she'd set aside and taking stock of the amount of people left in the room. Few enough that she can start wiping countertops, and by the time she gets to sweeping they'll be easily bullied out of the room. "Just get me a shot of pure adrenaline and I'll be fine."

Lightly, Arlo doffs his sparkly cowboy hat so he can smack Reggie's hands with it in a warning kind of way. He can see her mental math happening and he's got some of his own going on — there's no way she's going to keep working when she's been running herself ragged, and there's no way he's leaving in any order except last.

"We're conservin' medicine. And besides, you're gonna need all your energy for tomorrow. To show off."

Does he need to be more obvious?

Always.

He grins.

"For hot girls."

Reggie swats back at the hat, light and ineffectual to show that she actually respects the sparkles.

"God. I'm so gay it hurts sometimes," she sighs and rubs her eyes. "But none of you fuckers can swing a mop right."

He's almost offended by that but the last thing either of them needs is a midnight mop lesson so he plops the hat on her head instead, reasoning that maybe it'll act like a comforting gravity blanket that reminds her about ✨ being in bed. ✨ "I was a probie once same as you. I know how to keep a clean house, You're just a control freak." Actually, addendum: "A gay-as-hell control freak."

Reggie's dignity rankles under the addition of a hat, but it feels like it'd be rude to the hat itself if she took it off. And getting it back on Arlo's head would probably require her to scale the rafters.

"Aww, I can't believe you notiiiced," she says in a mock customer service tone. "I said I'd manage clean up and I keep my word, but, like," she huffs, as if conceding the biggest point, "you can help, I guess."

Arlo pushes off of the table with a grunt for the ages and heads in the direction of the broom (so Reggie can't get there first.) "So manage, which means you sit there 'n tell me what to do 'n how I'm not doin' it right."

"Oh you think I'm gonna let you have all the fun?" Reggie hoists herself from the table and grabs the stack of dishes she'd gathered up. "I told you I'm a master fucking multitasker, I can wash dishes while I criticize your form."

"That's your ONE job." Arlo stabs the mop menacingly in her direction from way too far away to make any real threat and some sudsy water pitter-patters onto the floor. "I threw the party, I make the rules."
