Poker Night @ the Romeros', Sunday 1/26

The Romeros & company have set up shop in a a large single-family in South Hobson. A split-entry home, the kitchen, living spaces and bedrooms are on the upper level while the lower level is a large finished basement, which is where Russell is hosting his guests. He’s procured a large, high-quality poker table. The basement also features a pool table and a variety of sofas, all scavenged from nearby houses.

Russell has invited Jem Carmichael, Natalie Stokes, Arlo Rattray and Henry and Candi Flume to participate in this poker night. Drinks and food are provided. Paget Yates is playing the role of dealer, which she does with little skill, attention, or patience. Dominick Card is also playing with the group. Other members of the household drift through occasionally to socialize. Russell does not accept Whitney Merit as currency, so everything brought to bet in this high-stakes poker game will need to be trade goods.

Jem, who is in his best moods when he's overworked and doesn't have time to think about his personal problems, is in a great mood tonight. He's not very good at poker, since he has an expressive face and a poor grasp on strategy, but he doesn't seem to mind much.

Notoriously horrible at poker and only here to keep an eye on his baby sister. In hopes of being responsible, he resolves to not get drunk tonight, but this resolution goes out the window in about twenty minutes and Henry ends up completely shitfaced.

At one point he bets a whole live pig from Lundegaard, which he should not be doing.

Candi has a visor, a box of her dad's cigars, and a chip on her shoulder, and she's ready to absolutely destroy these people at poker. For the first two hands she pretends she barely knows what she's doing, then abandons the façade altogether and goes all in so she doesn't lose her guitar. Fucking fear her, strange adult men.

A few drinks into the evening, after Russell has lost big on a few hands and as he's considering whether or not to buy back in (he has an unopened container of Dutched cocoa on the table in front of him which he's considering wagering but seems emotionally attached to), Russell glances between Paget and Card, who gives a subtle nod of encouragement to him.

"We heard you're all having some sort of meeting at the Depot on Wednesday," he says, address everyone in the group equally.
