He is sort of at the end of his rope emotionally after a long day of trudging through the woods looking for a deer feral. At least the problem is solved now, but if this were anyone's birthday party besides Reggie's, Jem would probably have just gone home for the night. He sticks it out for awhile, and has exactly one (1) drink which does nothing to help his sulky attitude.
"I need to report a fire hazard," Beau declares, in lieu of saying hello. These are the first words she's spoken directly to Jem since Sunday, despite being in Prescott every day for responder training. It wasn't deliberate. Not at first. But bad enough that people are already gossiping about one Betancourt twin.
Jem has been deeply lost in thought since he arrived at this party, but not so much so that he isn't vaguely aware of what Beau is up to. He draws a deep breath as he shakes off his reverie, and then tilts his head as he looks her over.
"You know, a gentleman would let me do my punchline." Despite her annoyed tone, Beau is smiling as she leans against the bar, watching him. She's been watching for a few minutes now, and suspects he hasn't noticed at all. "Or at least take care of these delinquents and their fireworks."
"Come outside. Stop brooding." She takes a couple steps back towards the exit, and gives Jem an obvious once-over. "Actually... second part is optional."

"Is it you?" he asks.

"Yeah, alright," he says, grabbing his hat off the bar and setting it on his head as he gets up to follow her.
