Bunny's arms lift themselves for the period of readjustment, picking up the soda so it isn't sitting on top of or falling over onto Duke's head.
"Didn't pay extra for fizz, did you?" There's the potential for admonishment in his tone, but like just barely. Mostly it's fond. Even if potential fizz isn't worth it, it's still pretty nice.
Content where he has settled, Duke eyes the stars for a few moments before shutting his eyes. He could probably fall asleep here - he's fallen asleep in more uncomfortable places.
"Only a little. All the other options were like... shit lookin' or obviously super old. Don't need that shit."
The Sprite gets settled back down into the crook of his own neck this time - gives it something to lean on and he can tilt his head to keep it in place if he really needs to.
"Didn't need any shit," Bunny points out, which isn't helpful but is true. He raps his fingers against Duke's head, tilts his gaze back skyward. "Good - shindig or whatever?"
"I know, but little treats are nice sometimes." Duke yawns softly, still feeling a little proud of himself. It really feels like, in general, things are looking up for them, but it's hard to not want little presents to lift spirits anyways.
He huffs a little laugh as Bunny taps on his head. "Yeah, was nice. Had some drinks with Court and 'lo, Reg liked her trophy. Good alone time?"
Either way, they can get treated to it later. Sort of hard to drink out of a can while lying horizontal. And sort of hard to put a definitive pin in the whole things looking up theory, but that's more of a nature thing. Metaphorical can half-full versus can half-empty.
"Successful shindig." Family-time is good. Present donation is the whole birthday thing. "Yeah. Quiet. Nothing tried to kill nobody."
The metal of the car is cold, so Duke scooches his body a little more on top of Bunny's, always a baby about a chill. It's probably not the most comfortable for either of them.
"Mmhm, nice to get the fuck out though. Hard to be mad about a little quiet. And that sounds like pretty successful alone time too." He fidgets and opens his eyes to crane his neck at Bunny. "The girls bein' ok?"
The air huffs itself out of Bunny's nose in a sharp little burst as Duke repositions himself. But just the once, really. So it's fine. Things are mostly going fine in there, as far as he can determine.
His own head tilts back, regarding the vague expanse between them and the people actually participating in something resembling active patrolling. "They ain't tried to kill nobody either." So. Good enough. "Least not the ones I've seen."
"Sorry Bun," comes quick and sincere, but even so Duke is settled, and Bunny seems fine? He will move, if it seems like he's causing problems.
"That's good. All this cross-group stuff is pro'ly good for 'em. Gets 'em out a bit and socializing." This, too, is sincere. Duke worries about their companions. "...I keep wonderin' a bit when things are gonna get better for everyone, you know? Like... it takes a while to work through shit."
He frowns, resisting the urge to twist so he can look at his friend. "'m worried about Arlo."
The huff of air is mostly laughter this time, a rocking thing that abruptly jolts the line of where Duke's gone and posted himself. "Like play dates?"
Or maybe more like how they gradually reintroduce wildlife to their natural habitats, try and get them to reintegrate into a native population. He'd watched a special about it once. Not a terrible parallel.
"Hard to work through stuff, I guess." His arm extends back out to his side, knuckles rapping against the hood of the car. Once, twice. "Hard to catch up in general." A beat, during which he tries to arrange the tone of his voice into something properly questioning. It's - somewhat successful. "He ain't good?"
"Playdates," Duke repeats, softly amused but agreeable. It is sort of like that. He knows that in their eyes he and Bunny are the ones to be taken care of, but honestly, everyone older than them seems to be having a bad time.
He hums, quietly thoughtful at Bunny's words. "Dunno. He's gonna sleep in his truck for the winter, and he's havin' a harder time with Court than I thought. Not really any good fixes for any of that, you know? Besides just being there for him. Still, feels a little bad."
The way Bunny figures it, some of the adults felt like they had their shit in order before everything went up in flames and corpses and stuff. It's not that everything wasn't bad for everyone now, it's just that it's probably worse when you think you're getting somewhere and then suddenly you're not.
Never had much of anything in order, personally. Makes it easier. A bit.
"Better than you not being there. Even if it ain't a fix." He bounces his shoulder, jostling Duke just a little. "Worst case we tie him to a chair and make him share with Blanche for the winter."
Honestly, Duke is thinking much along the lines of Bunny - sure, this is shit, but they'd been dealing with shit for long enough that this is just a different flavor. They have all the things they really need, so it's hard to feel too terrible about much of it. Doesn't mean he expects everyone else to take this mindset, though, and he's not about to try to force it on anyone.
"Yeah, I know. Just wish I could fix it." The jostling draws out a small noise from him, something between a laugh and a little grunt, acknowledgement and appreciation at the gesture. "I think he'd actually like livin' with Blanche. Guess if we go over there sometime and his lips're blue or somethin' we can darg him back with us."
