December 3rd: Encounter at Fairfield

While patrolling Fairfield to check for loose zombies and make sure the Fairgrounds are still secure, Dutch, Mud, Arwen Hartly, and Edgar de Leon encounter a group of ten survivors outside of an old T-Mobile store in Fairfield.

After a brief armed standoff, the survivors are able to defuse tensions and come together to chat. Edgar recognizes one of the survivors as Dominick Card, a white collar criminal whom he knows personally. They do not acknowledge one another.

As Arwen provides medical attention to an injured member of the group (and calls Prescott to come pick him up to be taken to the field hospital), Edgar chats with them to learn about their story. According to the leader of the group, a man named Russell Romero, they were living a tough but stable lifestyle on the outskirts of Seattle. When the Red Talon contingent from Danforth arrived, they began shaking down local groups in the outskirts for their resources. Feeling the situation was extremely volatile, Russell and the group fled immediately.

On their way to the area, they were attacked by a dog feral. Although they were able to kill the feral themselves, it bit one member of their group, who is now so injured they do not think they will be able to continue until he recovers. They are not prepared for winter, and have no plan for how to survive it.

Before they leave, Dutch informs the group of the zombie containment sites around the Quad area and also teaches them how to raise Prescott on the radio and gives them hers.

Although she doesn't disclose her Red Talon affiliation to the strangers, after they leave Dutch informs her companions that Thumper was performing similar shakedowns on groups which lived in Danforth at the time she was with Red Talon. According to her, Thumper was "not allowed" to harass people who lived in the Quad area in this fashion.

INTERACTIONS: Prescott

Chase Jakobsen, Kath Romero, and Valerie Romero are at Prescott through December 5th as Chase receives treatment. Any PC may approach them to interact with them during this time. Just leave a comment below explaining how your character would approach them, what they'd want to ask or offer, etc, and I'll write a response.

INTERACTIONS: Prescott - Arlo

while arlo doesn't ask them for anything specific, he treats making them feel comfortable part of his responderly & leaderly duties both. he brings them coffee and snacks when he can and tries to bring them books from the library, warmer clothing, etc. when he and niko went to danforth for warm clothing he found a box o' parkas (20) they brought back, so if there's anything left, they can go to the group.

tl;dr he's just Being Present and working on the Community-Building Aspect of Everything.

INTERACTIONS: Prescott - Arlo & Kath

Valerie is extremely mentally checked out while Chase is receiving treatment, but Kath is happy to chat with Arlo after he makes this generous donation. She tells him that they had to leave their old home with only what they could carry on their backs, and they lost many possessions they'd been hanging onto since the beginning of the outbreak. While they were lucky enough to be able to hang onto their most sentimental possessions, these donations will go a long way to rebuilding their wardrobes. She does fret for a moment about how much they'll be able to carry with them when they leave, and resolves to return anything they can't take with them to Prescott when they leave the area.

She also chats with him for awhile, and seems particularly interested in Prescott's set-up and how long they've been operating. She mentions she knew of an enclave of three doctors who lived outside of Seattle, but they just operated out of a normal house. They were the only healthcare providers in the Seattle outskirts area that she knew of.

INTERACTIONS: Prescott - Niko

Niko drops by to chat with them (and see if there's anything wrong with them without freaking them out). He tells them to call if they need a doctor to check anything out and offers them some beanie babies (he's got a ton of these he was going to hand out to the Lundegaard kids during check-ups and figures it's a non-threatening way to cheer people of any age up). He doesn't want to spook them!

INTERACTIONS: Prescott - Niko, Chase & Valerie

Now that Chase is getting fluids and antibiotics, he's doing a lot better and his prognosis is good, although he's not entirely out of the woods yet. Prescott nurses are also lightly concerned about Valerie, who has been borderline catatonic since arriving, but Niko is able to get a few words out of her during this conversation. She remarks that she feels like she's dreaming, but thanks Niko and the Prescott team for treating Chase.

Chase takes a tie-dye lizard beanie baby from Niko to give to his niece, although he also frets that he has trouble finding gifts for her these days because she doesn't seem to like any of the things she used to like before the outbreak anymore.

INTERACTIONS: Prescott - Blythe

Blythe heard about the group and the Charitable Church Boy part of his brain went into overdrive. He doesn't have a whole lot to bring, but he brings a couple blankets (some of which are actually just towels he stitched together and stuffed with something soft for a makeshift quilt) and asks if they need anything mended while they're here. He's SO fast at sewing, let him fix your jacket please 🥺

INTERACTIONS: Prescott - Blythe, Valerie & Kath

These women are a little overwhelmed by the generosity of the Quad residents (albeit not in a bad way). They accept the blankets with thanks, but struggle to name anything they might need mended. After awhile, Valerie mentions that Paget's favorite jacket was ripped when the feral attacked them, although they don't have it here on them. They don't seem to have the mental energy to coordinate this exchange themselves, but Kath agrees that Paget would appreciate it if her jacket were mended.

I am going to continue to create volunteer & open opportunities to interact with these characters that anyone is free to engage with, but I also want to encourage you all to feel free to seek them out on the dropbox whenever you want! I'm happy to run an encounter like this for any small group of 2-5 PCs, although I do want to resolve Cal and Nat's PCal event with them on the 10th before I start running other encounters with them.
