A thunderstorm is rolling into the area. The residents of the Quad prepare to weather out the storm, as zombie activity becomes erratic from the thunderclaps and lightning.

• Friday Oct. 19: the community is asked to come and help the Container Fort prepare for the inclement weather.

• Saturday Oct. 20: Blythe Ferry, Courtney Slaughter and Natalie Stokes are trapped overnight at Lundegaard during the storm.

Muddy fields and high speed winds keep everyone inside.

CHARACTER STATUS

CHARACTER STATUS: John

Although a big storm is never a good thing when you are already living in the ever-present danger of zombie times, John is kind of having fun. He’d never admit it, but he’s excited to climb around on shipping containers to secure them. Maybe he’ll get blown away like a leaf in the wind. Fun.

But in the back of his mind, he feels increasingly concerned about Emmett and Roswell. How will they shelter in the storm?

Back at Lundegaard, he works to finish securing the village. When that’s done, John considers asking Ophelia if she would like to ride out the storm with him, then thinks the better of it. When he realizes Court is trapped at Lundegaard, he also considers inviting her to stay at his house, but thinks the better of that—the bed and breakfast will be nicer. He spends most of the storm by himself, eating soup.

CHARACTER STATUS: Lola

Lola is the type of person to make a 😳 face after hearing loud thunder, so expect her to be walking around like 😳 the entire weekend. But she’s less afraid of adverse weather systems than she is dogs, so she heeds the Container Fort’s call. While at the Fort, she ties ropes and hammers them into the ground. She’s helping!

Back at Whitney, Lola runs around stuffing rags at the bottoms of all lower level stadium doors in case of flooding. Once she finishes with that, she posts up on the tippy top of the stadium seating, keeping watch to keep track of any zombies staggering around in the storm. To keep dry, she shrouds herself in garbage bags; to keep water out of her eyes, she wears a pair of scavenged swim goggles. She kind of has the vibe of Robert Pattinson from The Lighthouse on day 4 of Willem Dafoe-induced delirium, even though The Lighthouse did not exist at this time. In other words: Lola is having an intense, kinda scary blast.

CHARACTER STATUS: Carter

Even though today is the most like her sister she's ever looked, wearing one of Beau's hoodies, her hair down and free, Carter's tight, controlled expression gives her away. Carter remains present for the entire securing of the Container Fort, and while she's graceful and a kind host, no one's allowed inside the Fort itself without a Container denizen.

When everyone's gone, she makes sure her group is set up with the hot chocolate from Whitney, makes a final run for water, and tries to comfort Steak and Potato. This is indicative of the rest of the storm. There's not much sitting or sleeping, but she can be convinced to pause for cards or other diversions, for a little while.

CHARACTER STATUS: Gideon

On Friday Gideon's being a little clipped with people, but he blames it on being very focused on helping the Container Fort. He drives out with John (the drive takes longer than it should as they detour, keeping eyes out for their missing members) and does everything he can to weatherproof the containers. He even goes to check up on Steak, who greets him by charging him and trying to attack his boot. Yeah, that's the same bird.

By Saturday morning, Gideon is actively worrying about Roswell and Emmett, who are out somewhere in the middle of the thunderstorm. He puts on a stiff upper lip and makes sure everything is locked down and ready for the weather. Considering the likelihood of a power outage, he remains in his own little cottage near the electrical building, but says the door's open to anyone who wants to wait it out with him. As long as they promise to help him kick on the backup generator when they inevitably need it.

CHARACTER STATUS: Ares

Ares is honestly going to chill in Prescott til it blows over. He'll take any necessary calls. He did go to the Fort because Reggie went to the fort and he doesn't trust that place enough to not murder her. At some point, he'll try to get everyone to vote on a group Halloween costume while they're captive. Sheet ghosts or dalmatians?

CHARACTER STATUS: Reggie

Reggie's lived and worked in this area long enough to know when a storm's gonna be big, and as much as she'd love to say the folks in the fort aren't her problem and she's not even on duty yet... well, she really shouldn't be letting an entire quarter of their Summit just fucking die.

So she goes to the fort to strap down containers and tarps and throw down sandbags to save the ones they live in. And after that, she refuses to relax for the rest of the storm. Any minute now, they'll get a call that the lumberyard has been struck by lightning or something and she needs to be fucking ready, dammit.

CHARACTER STATUS: Emmett

Even with Niko's cool fanny pack of otc nausea meds, Court still ends up getting motion sickness from Arlo's lead foot driving. As such she spends the first ten or so minutes at the Container Fort off to the side, half bent over with her elbows on her knees taking deep breaths and telling anyone who asks that she's fine and just needs a minute.

Once she's no longer liable to become a vomit machine, she is willing to help with anything and everything around the fort. Especially if she got to do dumb shit like climb on the shipping containers like a jungle gym. At some point in the middle of helping she happens to catch John's eye and gives him a wink that is no way even discrete - she rolled a [5] - because she's a hypocrite.

When the rest of Prescott goes back, she sets up a ride with Nat & Blythe to be dropped off as 1) she wants to stay behind and catch up with Duke, and 2) doesn't feel like dealing with Arlo's driving twice in one day honestly. As her companions have some equipment to deliver to Lundegaard, the trio go there first and it soon becomes apparent they won't be leaving. Cue Court helping with any last minute preparations around Lundegaard (let her get on your roof, bro!!!!) and eventually joining her travel partners in staying at the bed & breakfast overnight. She'd considered showing up at John's door unannounced, but figured that wouldn't be very cash money of her.

CHARACTER STATUS: Quaid

Quaid went to the Container Fort to help get things weatherproofed with the rest of Lundegaard and was constantly on the move, but left the more dangerous 'jobs' to others and instead helped where he could from the ground. Dice Maiden says he's not afraid of heights, but I'm too braindead from work to figure out an valid explanation for this, so please just humor me. <3

After returning to Lundegaard he set about making sure everyone that did need assistance got it. His own residence is kind of already boarded up - to hide from ghosts - except for the main little area, so he's able to lend a hand doing this, that, or the other. At some point he makes sure to stop by and check that Emmett and Roswell's abodes are secure, unsure if anyone else had and likewise having taken notice of their absence.

CHARACTER STATUS: Ophelia

Ophelia lowkey loves stormy weather, so while she has concerns about the safety of everyone, she's pretty calm all things considered. She helps around Lundegaard where needed and lets people know her door's open in case they get stuck in the rain and need somewhere to shelter before they go back to their actual destination.

At some point, she pops over to Emmett's farm to check on the baby chickens because she's pretty fond of them now and her cat is with her brother for the storm so she doesn't have a cute animal to get cozy with otherwise. The rest of the storm, she mostly rides out by reading her books and listening to music.

CHARACTER STATUS: Billie

Billie is distinctly not a fan of storms and busies herself trying to make things as secure as possible. When she manages to secure as much as she can, she channels her anxious energy into working on her Halloween gift for Lola and hiding out in the locker room she stays in as much as possible.

Unless someone needs her for something, she avoids going outside once it starts thundering and sticks to the interior areas.

CHARACTER STATUS: Natalie

Nat has always loved a good storm, but when you're responsible for several dozen people and the storm itself threatens all of that, your perspective tends to change. She would have helped Mara ensure Whitney Field was secured and people had what they needed to wait out the storm, before taking a few Whitney citizens over to the container fort to help. She had plans to go to Lunengaard that day to deliver some old distilling equipment for Quaid (as well as take the opportunity to catch Emmett to ask some questions about crops) so was already heading out that way. Nat loves seeing the Summit in action and would take this venture to the Container Fort as an opportunity to get to know some of the others better too.

Blythe and Court make the journey with her to the lumber yard, and naturally the "few hours" she said she'd be gone for turn into an overnight. Stuck in Lunengaard as things worsen, Nat at least takes the time to familiarize herself with the operations here as she chats with Gideon, and help where she can. Emmett is nowhere to be found (and doesn't that give her flashbacks to a truly terrible summer), so that was a bust! She hunkers down with Blythe and Court at the b&b, playing cards, swapping stories, and drinking swill because it's not like they can do anything else and she trusts that everyone at Whitney Field is okay.

CONTAINER FORT: Carter & Open

About an hour into the first evening, Carter slips away form the communal container where a lot of the group had gathered for warmth and security. She can't be professional and in control for one more minute. It's been a long day of that. It worked. Probably. But the doubt's creeping in as to whether this was a good thing. She's never run up a debt this high without knowing what lies on the other side of it.

She could be wrong. The Summit could decide they're too much of a risk. Drop them. Make sure they had a leader, a babysitter who knows how to weatherize a container. That would be her fault. Maybe it'd be best for her to run away. But Carter doesn't let herself think about the running. Instead, she sticks her head out of what passes for a window, letting the rain soak her hair. She could ostensibly defend this by saying she's looking for damage, were her eyes not fully closed.

CONTAINER FORT: Angel & Carter

A sharp knock starts, then second guesses itself, on the Betancourt container. The rain is already picking up, and Angel's hair is plastered to her face as she peers through the tarp to see if anyone is there to notice her. Her eyes are wide as she makes contact with Carter.

"Hi, sorry, I'm just—" she stammers a little, but is already starting to slip inside. "Can I hang out with you? Just for tonight, I promise, but Aimee and Laura are fighting again and it's giving me a migraine."

Assuming they all made it back from the Container Fort before the storm hit, Niko would have suggested a Movie Night (he's got a big thing of random DVDs that was in his car) and then immediately fell asleep because they're probably not going to have to leave the station for awhile.

PRESCOTT FIRE STATION: Ares and Reggie

It would probably be a great idea for Ares to stay indoors, by the fire trucks, watching Maid in Manhattan with Niko. Unfortunately, the show happening outside is much more interesting. It won't hurt himself or anyone else if he just sits outside the garage bay, taking a moment to appreciate nature's way of ripping through everything. Reggie's here, too. Not a bad day. He grins when a particularly piercing-looking lightning splats through the air.

"What're the chances of being struck again?" He asks, cheery.

LUNDEGAARD LUMBER: Gideon & Court

Gideon crouches on the ground, digging through a bag. From it he produces little glass jars of shredded chicken, scrambled eggs, and cheese. Court volunteered, and he's immediately taking on the role of chief cat wrangler. It's not significantly different from his day to day job.

"Most of the tame cats are back to their safe havens," he's drawing a little map in the dirt that vaguely represents Lundegaard, "but the feral ones are a little unpredictable. We need to lure them into the major barns since they don't trust people."

LUNDEGAARD LUMBER: Gideon & Nat

Gideon tries to stay focused on Natalie, but his eyes keep wandering off to the incoming storm on the horizon. It's objectively beautiful, even if it spells frustration. He can smell the ozone. It's a scent even he has a hard time explaining, and when he does, it feels pretentious.

"Sorry you came at a bad time," he says, too professional to not be vaguely awkward. "We'll see it through with no problems."

LUNDEGAARD LUMBER: Gideion & Open (to all)

Gideon is handling things. It's very normal that he's tense and sometimes curt with people. If asked where Roswell is, he'll explain that Roswell and Emmett are on patrol looking for stragglers before the storm. They'll find someplace to shelter before the worst of the weather hits.

(Ophelia, Maggie and Quaid: if you ask directly Gideon will say they're missing, but not unless he is asked. Sorry!!! Terrible!!!)
