Vibes & Playlist

Mismatched furniture, tableware, and cutlery in the B&B, dining hall, and town hall. Wooden carvings of animals hung up with burlap ribbons and hand turkeys made by schoolchildren. Bouquets of dogtooth daisies and boughs of marescent leaves in red, orange, and gold. The smell of freshly baked bread, hay, and woodsmoke. Warm lights from firepits, candles, and dim, flickering fluorescent bulbs.

John played some of these chill tunes.

VOLUNTEER SLOTS

VOLUNTEER 1 arrives too early and is enlisted to help whip cream by Lundegaard's resident tree whisperer, Alice Samayao. On the bright side, your forearm strength is going to be off the chain once you're done...

After they're released from hwhippin' it, Volunteer 1 sneaks away with some whipped cream to playfully smash it into VOLUNTEER 2's face.

DUTCH and DUKE RATTRAY spy a ladder leaning against the roof of the barn and climb on up. They get a nice view of Lundegaard in the crisp autumnal night. But—whoops—Bill Rhoades takes the ladder away when they're not looking. Dutch and Duke have to jump down (safely) from the roof into a bale of hay. Oof.

VOLUNTEER 5 stuffs themselves on food. Feeling wretched and incredibly sleepy, they knock out in an empty barrel. VOLUNTEER 6 finds them 30 minutes later. You good?

COURT SLAUGHTER makes a daring request during line dancing and gets all the dancers grooving to Rihanna's "S&M" (feat. Britney Spears). Vrow.

GAMES & DANCING

Leadership Bingo
Quaid and John have prepared 3x3 bingo cards using old notebook paper (so... bingo leaves), each randomly populated with the names of community leadership (sans John). The winner gets the honor of being THE BIG TURKEY of the evening and a dozen apple donuts.

Line Dancing
To these classic tunes! Before the outbreak, John spent some time at his local senior citizens center carefully observing line dances and at times participating. So while he claims he can't dance, he is able and willing to help anyone pick up the steps.

Quaid's just here, in as much that he was probably helping greet the first people that showed up and still tirelessly thanking the very last person for coming. He's in his element, cracking jokes, checking on people, and generally having a wonderful time. Did you need something? How is everything? How about that goose, eh?

Niko is here, and his vibes are noticeably off [3]. He's extremely nervous because he's planning on awkwardly introducing Zelda and Blythe to each other, and extremely nervous about food-related gatherings in general (they're dangerous to him!!!), but he's got a couple of CLIF Bars and his own personal travel mug of coffee and is trying to be a good sport. He's even got a cute little cardigan on.

What up, Reggie is in a weirdly good (manic) mood today. She brought roasted potatoes and is on HIGH ALERT for any of her Prescott children acting badly, even though they're all larger than her and have less reason for being bad. Will punch people in the arm the more she's enjoying herself, but that's just bein' a lil scamp.

Blythe is Fine :) A LITTLE paranoid about eating something wrong and then killing the Quad's surgeon with a smooch. A TINY bit nervous about meeting Zelda. Just a WEE bit worried the other members of the troupe are going to do something to get them kicked out (he's watching you, Odyssey!!!). But other than all of THAT, he's great!!! He loves people and now there's a whole bunch of them he doesn't know yet!! Do any of the children want a balloon animal?? (Wait he only has 5 balloons, maybe he can make balloon centerpieces.)

Mud is grumpy. His leg hurts?? It's cold out and his entire right side hurts, why would the world do this to him. He legitimately needs the help of his dogs if he wants to stand at all today, which is why he has both Petra and Coco — he's way too heavy for just one of them and the pups are too young for that kind of service work.

He hobbles around, drinking and grumbling and not eating all that much, then disappears outside to smoke for like at least half an hour to an hour at a time. Hi. Please let him die.

Zelda is in a GREAT mood. She decided today was the day to put her trust in Arlo's mechanic abilities to the test by driving her Porsche for the first time since her dad wrecked it, so she arrives in her way too fancy for an apocalypse car, extremely pleased that it is in fact drivable again and maybe even feels better than it used to. Or maybe not being able to drive it in awhile clouded her judgment on its former glory. Either way, she's stoked about it and loves a party.

For once, she is not in one of her seasonally inappropriate dresses because she's wearing mostly gifts from Court. She's got a cute blouse on though, because even a gift can't make her fully give up on cuteness over function.

Zelda brought lumpia. It's not that pretty because she never quite perfected the technique of making wrappers herself in an aesthetically pleasing way but they taste fine. About 2/3 of them are made with veggie filling and the rest are with pork and veggies.

Ophelia is there and in mildly good spirits, which is actually kind of considerable if you know her. She's even able to be caught smiling sometimes, generally at seeing the kids running around or when she's milling around contently with her brother.

Court rolled a [nat 20] for fanciness so shows up wearing an outfit she cobbled together during her recent trip to Danforth with John. 1) we're saying those are flats, cause Court will kill herself in heels, 2) she is extremely uncomfortable [16] being all zhuzhed up and it is probably very evident she just wants her comfort denim, and 3) she's smartly decided to wear her sling for at least a wee bit longer. Oh, and Zelda did her makeup for her since Z is a rl princess.

She also comes bearing a giant green bean casserole that was made with love and only a little bit of cursing.

Billie is there and in high spirits because she's been cooped up recovering since the horde stuff. She's still not 100% but that won't stop her from being jazzed about food and fun (hopefully.)

She did not feel up for cooking anything super intensive but she did bring a sheet of Rice Krispie treats that were made with stale Rice Krispies and what peanut butter she had on hand, with Lola's assistance.

Arlo LOVES a holiday and has barely been able to attend Thanksgivings on Thanksgiving due to his job so he's in VERY. HIGH. SPIRITS. Or maybe it's a manic comedown from all the emotions he got via Duke and Court last night!!! He's got flannel (it's less worn than his denim shirt), jeans, and a P R R R I S T I N E-condition New Orleans Saints hat (on backwards ofc) that's never seen the light of day before now.

He brought collard greens with a little 'no eggs' sign! He's on his best behaviour until he dives in for the booze! Let's do this!

Black Chucks, black skinny jeans, an oversized wool sweater, and a beads-and-bone friendship bracelet that matches the rest of the Fort's — Cal should be her regular, lurky self.

For reasons she refuses to disclose, she's the bubbly, pleasant, happy Calliope Nightengale who spams the BB with emojis.

She doesn't seem to have brought anything.

ARRIVALS/VIBE CHECKS: Roswell

Roswell lives here, and he's wearing his nice clothes (dress shoes included). He's not in a bad mood exactly, but he's forming a pattern of becoming sort of depressive immediately following Summit Meetings. He seems like his mind is elsewhere for most of the evening unless someone speaks to him directly, in which case he can rally and be personable for five to fifteen minutes at a time.

Mara shows up very early to help her mother-in-law cook several dishes for Lundegaard's dinner offerings. She is in an absolutely rotten mood the entire night. Although she's put a little more effort into her appearance than she has been lately, she is still dressed plainly except for the faux-leopard print jacket she first debuted at Whitney's Halloween party earlier this year.

Nat loves Thanksgiving (loves any excuse to pack a bunch of people into a small space like family) so she's all smiles. She's in a cheerful yellow shirt (which is against her usual colour scheme) and headband, but that's the extent of her trying to look "nice." She's still in jeans and docs.

Nat brought cranberry sauce for Jem, as promised. She also brought alcoholic and non-alcoholic cider from their stores, as well as two bottles of wine and other ingredients to make mulled wine if they can spare some cooking space and a pot.

Beck is repurposing his fox kigurumi for today: a cozy outfit for a cozy occasion. He is in fairly high spirits, happily chatting about his current re-read of House of Leaves and then, high as hell while chomping on mustard greens, what the term "postmodern" might mean in the postmodern "modern." It's so annoying. Later in the evening, he can be seen attempting to line dance and dozing off in the B&B.

Whereas Quaid is in his element, John is not. Still, he's trying his best to be a good host, carefully copying Quaid's actions though with less inherent charm. He appears visibly relieved whenever he witnesses people enjoying themselves—he worked hard on this and wants very badly for people to feel comfortable and taken care of.

He appears to favor his left arm over his right. Halfway through the party, he disappears for about 20 minutes. When he returns, he has a faint pine-like, resinous smell about him, stronger around his right shoulder.

ARRIVALS/VIBE CHECKS: Lola

Yesterday's Summit Meeting was work but TODAY'S Summit-esque meeting (many of the same folks, many such things) is all about PLAY! Lola has a good time stuffing herself with food, although she's miiiiiildly put off by the lack of fried food, butylated hydroxyanisole, and butylated hydroxytoluene (preservatives commonly found in potato chips and quasi-mystical components that Lola thinks will make her immortal like a lobster), all three of which she is convinced she needs to live.

She sticks close to Billie, making sure she's comfortable and fixing her a plate, and perhaps even square dancing with her if Billie feels up to it. She also checks in on Beck here and there, and tries to keep tabs on Mara. Hmmmm.

ARRIVALS/VIBE CHECKS: Arwen

Honestly, a small part of Arwen hadn't wanted to come - there's just kind of been a lot lately, and she's feeling a bit up in her head. But, community, supporting Mara, blah blah blah, so she's here. She's wearing a pale pink men's button up that's been taken in at the waist so it's more shapely and jeans, and brought some fried sage leaves. It's not much, but she wasn't entirely sure what else to bring.

She'll intermittently sneak off to read, and will absolutely not be line dancing, thanks.

ARRIVALS/VIBE CHECKS: Duke

You want to know what's fun and great? This!! Duke is chipper and ready to have a nice time, even though he sort of wishes this was at Prescott instead. All his favorite people are here, though, so it's hard to complain. He will absolutely be gorging himself and will have fun dancing, talking, and playing bingo.

ARRIVALS/VIBE CHECKS: Maggie

Maggie is in an odd but pleasant enough mood. She is actively trying to be more sociable—partially out of human need, partially for political reasons—and spends the majority of the event circulating, attempting to strike up conversation. She even looks more approachable than usual, in a black turtle neck, black leggings, and a little blue hiking dress.

For many people, this could be their first time learning that Maggie is not as self-possessed as she seems and is actually a pretty goobery person. She likes parties but prefers to observe, not participate, so she is far outside of her comfort zone and feeling awkward. She winds up getting a little drunk by the end of the evening.

ARRIVALS/VIBE CHECKS: Emre

After fix-ups around town and dinnerware collecting, Emre is here to be less responsible and, you know, get drunk. He starts out relatively sociable but slowly slips into something rather sullen. He likely won't misbehave, but he'll quit interacting with people unless they seek him out. Which, who would want to?
